Report: Liverpool will not revisit interest in 21-year-old defensive starlet

Liverpool will not rekindle interest in Lloyd Kelly

According to a report from James Pearce of The Athletic, Liverpool will not be revisiting their interest in Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly in the ongoing transfer window.

The Premier League champions were keen on signing the 21-year-old last year, when he was still at Bristol City. Kelly was seen as a defender with potential and scope for development. His versatility was seen as an asset as well, given that he could play at left-back as well as centre-back, providing depth in two positions.

However, Kelly ended up joining Bournemouth in a deal worth £13m. But it wasn’t smooth sailing for the defender, who endured an injury-riddled campaign that saw him feature in only a handful of appearances.

The Cherries have now been relegated and are likely to lose a few players this summer. However, The Athletic reports that there is no chance Liverpool will not revisit their interest in the 21-year-old Kelly.

The reason behind it, as per the report, is that Kelly’s agents are believed to have behaved in an unprofessional manner during negotiations last year, which left Michael Edwards angered. And hence, the Liverpool chief does not want to conduct business with them this summer.

Kelly is currently represented by Stellar Football Ltd., who also represent the likes of Mason Mount and Jack Grealish.

Kelly, given his versatility and age, would have been a decent addition. But, it seems that the club has moved on from the interest in the 21-year-old. Instead, Norwich City’s Jamal Lewis has emerged as a transfer target for the club in the ongoing transfer window.
