Liverpool submit offer for Fluminense’s Marcelo Pitaluga

According to the Echo, Premier League champions Liverpool have submitted a transfer offer for Fluminense’s teenage goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga.

A product of the Fluminense academy, the 17-year-old Marcelo has been fast tracked through the youth ranks. He is currently training with the Brazilian outfit’s senior team. However, he is currently the fourth-choice custodian under manager Odair Hellmann and is yet to make his first-team debut.

Held in high regard within the club, Fluminense are looking to cash in on their teenage shot-stopper owing to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on finances. And as a result, the offer put forth by Liverpool is likely to accepted by the Brazilian outfit. (h/t Liverpool Echo)

Details of the offer made by Liverpool have not been revealed. However, reports in Brazil (h/t Liverpool Echo) have claimed that the young Marcelo has a ‘desire to play for Liverpool’ while the club have offered his family a house in England as well.

The 17-year-old was born in Brazil, but is said to possess a German passport as well. This should ensure that there are no work permit issues coming into play for the deal. (h/t Liverpool Echo)

Marcelo is not the only young goalkeeper Liverpool have their eyes on currently, after having released Daniel Atherton, Shamal George and Kai McKenzie-Lyle last month.

The club are also pondering over the possibility of handing a contract to free agent Javi Cendon
