Kylian Mbappe could be available for £91m next summer with Liverpool keen
Although Liverpool started the summer looking like they were going to be quite inactive in the transfer market, the last couple of weeks has thrown light on the situation. Until a couple of weeks ago, Kostas Tsimikas was the only acquisition that Liverpool had made, but recently, their name has been popping up all over the place.
The latest player that the Reds have been linked with, as claimed by L’Equipe (h/t Mirror), is a surprising one – PSG’s French World Cup-winning star Kylian Mbappe.
Liverpool’s hunt for new attacking players has already produced one fruitful transfer in the form of Diogo Jota. The Portuguese attacker was brought in from Wolves last week, only a day after the Reds announced the signing of Thiago Alcantara.
And while it must be conceded that Jota is a good player in his own right, it’s safe to say that he isn’t up to the level of Kylian Mbappe. The former Monaco winger is among the highest-rated attackers in world football at the moment, and all this at such a tender age.
Capable of bombarding down the flank and leaving any defender in the world for dead on his day, Mbappe’s addition would carry this Liverpool frontline to the absolute next level.
The report suggests that the Frenchman could be available to Liverpool for as low as £91m next summer, as he enters the final year of his contract. That, in this day and age, can be considered a ‘knockdown’ price for a player of Mbappe’s abilities.
However, apart from Liverpool, Real Madrid are also interested in the World Cup winner, while the price could go further up if he goes onto sign a new contract. (h/t Mirror)
A move for Mbappe, should it materialize, would bolster the Reds’ attacking unit a great deal, while putting daylight between us and our competitors. It will be interesting to see if Klopp & co. decide to move for the Frenchman next year.
