Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing Fabinho from Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet , Fabinho has popped up on the radar of Real Madrid over a move in the summer transfer window. The Liverpool superstar is being eyed as a possible replacement for Raphael Varane, who is tipped to leave Los Blancos ahead of 2021/22.

Fabinho arrived in Europe by joining Rio Ave in the summer of 2012 and even spent a year or so with Real Madrid. However, it was during a three-year stint with AS Monaco that he finally started to be rated as a world class footballer before he took his career to the next level upon joining Liverpool in the summer of 2018.

Over the last three years, the Brazilian international has played a key role in establishing the Reds as one of the elite clubs in Europe, with the Merseyside giants triumphing in Europe while also winning the elusive Premier League title last term. His progress, though, seems to have captured the attention of former club Real Madrid.

Interestingly, Real Madrid are considering Fabinho as a direct replacement for Raphael Varane, who has coincidentally been linked with Liverpool as well. While the 27-year-old has done quite well when filling in as a centre-back this season, his best qualities come through when he is deployed in midfield.

However, with Casemiro going strong season after season, Fabinho will merely be a backup option at the base of the Real Madrid midfield, making him a viable candidate in defence. And while David Alaba is expected to arrive at the club this summer, Los Blancos could do with another centre-back option, considering Sergio Ramos is also facing an uncertain future in the Spanish capital.

The first game of the 2021 Champions League semi-finals is getting close and it will be a duel between perennial winners Real Madrid and Chelsea.

To that end, Fabinho is a viable target for Real Madrid, although the report does not mention whether Liverpool would be open to the prospect of parting ways with one of their best players. For now, it looks like the 27-year-old could be courted by the Merengues this coming summer and it will be interesting to see if he returns to Madrid in the coming months.
