According to Italian journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are set to trigger the release clause of Ibrahima Konate, which means there is ‘no chance’ for Ozan Kabak to stay.
The Reds have been linked with the RB Leipzig defender for a while now. And it is now said that the club will trigger Konate’s €35million release.
This means that the club are not going to keep Ozan Kabak permanently. The Schalke defender arrived at Anfield in the January transfer window after an injury crisis at the back forced Jurgen Klopp into action.
The Turkish youngster showed his maturity in the Premier League as he was trusted to start important games for the club. But an injury to the 21-year-old meant that his campaign ended early.
And it seems like the Reds will not pursue a deal to keep him in Merseyside for the next season. Instead, the attention has shifted towards Konate.
The injury crisis at the back would be solved to a great extent once the next season begins. Virgil van Dijk has already revealed he will not go to the Euros in order to recover fully from his ACL injury.
Joe Gomez and Joel Matip should also be back by the start of the next season, and with Konate’s addition at the back, the Reds will be well stacked during the 2021/22 campaign.
With Ben Davies and to Rhys Williams showing their mettle in the last few gameweeks, Kabak’s departure should not hurt the club too much.
The tweet by Romano also goes on to mention that Schalke could want to part ways with Kabak, and would look to sell him off to a Premier League or Bundesliga club.
