Transfer News: Stance on signing new midfielder revealed as Florian Neuhaus is linked
According to Liverpool Echo, Liverpool are ‘keeping tabs’ on 24-year-old German midfielder Florian Neuhaus but there is no guarantee of signing someone in that position during the summer transfer window.
Georginio Wijnaldum did not renew his contract at Anfield and will now join PSG. In light of that, there is an obvious need to replace the Dutchman within the squad.
Despite the 30-year-old’s departure, the report adds that bringing in a midfielder is ‘not a priority’ for Liverpool in the summer transfer window. However, that could change depending on what happens with Liverpool players during the summer.
Marko Grujic is close to an exit from Anfield with FC Porto leading the race for the £20million-rated midfielder while Harry Wilson, Takumi Minamino and Xherdan Shaqiri could also depart.
Could Anfield be Florian’s new house?
There was a £34million release clause in Neuhaus’ contract with Borussia Monchengladbach which he signed in 2019. However, there is no clarity if that clause has expired or not, with three years still left on his current deal.
Speaking to SPORT1 in Germany (h/t Liverpool Echo) recently, Neuhaus explained how his gut feeling could decide where he moves next. His current team finished 8th and missed European qualification next season.
“It will be very important how my gut feeling is. How much you have the feeling that the club really wants you. I’m a person who likes to dare. I could very well imagine going abroad.”
One potential replacement for Wijnaldum within the team could be Curtis Jones. The 20-year-old Scouser has looked tidy when he has had the chance to play.

However, with the club challenging for trophies on four fronts and only recently making it out of an abysmal injury record last year, signing a midfielder like Neuhaus would benefit the club.
