Liverpool handed boost in pursuit of La Liga star as club are ready to sell for £69m

Liverpool Transfer News: Atletico Madrid ready to sell Saul Niguez for £69m

According to transfer news from Mundo Deportivo (h/t Mirror), Liverpool have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Atletico Madrid midfield star Saul Niguez.

The 26-year-old has been a mainstay in the middle of the park for Atletico Madrid for a good part of the last six-seven years. However, Saul found his game-time reduced in the season gone by as he started just 22 La Liga matches even as Los Rojiblancos went on to lift the league title.

This, as per the report, has left Saul frustrated and the Spanish international is now desiring to leave the Wanda Metropolitano in the upcoming transfer window.

This ought to come as a boost for Liverpool, who have been linked with a move for Saul in recent weeks. The Reds are in need of a new central midfielder as Georginio Wijnaldum is set to leave upon the expiry of his contract later this month.

In addition to that, there are uncertainties surrounding the future of Naby Keita as well, which in turn, necessitates the signing of a new midfielder in the upcoming transfer window. Saul, to that end, can be a fine transfer target for Liverpool, given his proven pedigree at this level. And, that he still has his best years in front of him is another major advantage.

With the midfielder seeking an exit, it is being claimed that Atletico Madrid will be open to selling Saul this summer. In fact, the La Liga champions will listen to offers of around £69m, which is nearly half of his £129m release clause.
