According to transfer news from Liverpool Echo, Liverpool winger Harry Wilson is the subject of interest from Benfica. While the Portuguese side have had an initial offer knocked back, the Reds are expecting them to return with an improved offer.
The 24-year-old Welsh forward spent 10 years in the youth teams at Liverpool before being loaned out to Crewe Alexandra. On his return, he spent the next season at the U-23 level. Four successive loan spells followed from 2017 to 2021.
Wilson was allowed to leave for Cardiff City on loan last season. He enjoyed one of his best spells at the Welsh club, with 7 goals and 12 assists in 37 games. Now that he’s returned, the Reds want a permanent sale of the winger.
Wilson’s exploits at Cardiff mean that interest has been high. It is understood that Benfica have had an initial offer knocked back due to the difference in valuation. However, Liverpool are expecting Benfica to return for further talks and match the £13million asking price.
There is also interest from the likes of Brentford and West Brom. It is very likely Liverpool will get what they are demanding given his exploits at Cardiff. Wilson has not been able to break into the side for a while now and it’s better that he is allowed to leave on a permanent deal.
