Transfer News: Liverpool target Christoph Baumgartner wants to remain at Hoffenheim

According to transfer news from Metro, Liverpool target Christoph Baumgartner has expressed his desire to remain at Hoffenheim. The Austrian impressed for his nation at the Euros and that has resulted in a few top teams trying to sign him.

Baumgartner rose through the youth ranks of SV Horn and St. Polten in Austria before being snapped up by Hoffenheim in 2017. The playmaker has amassed a decent haul of 16 goals and 13 assists

At just 21-years of age, Baumgartner has already become a star for his nation. Austria might have only made it to the round of 16 but the youngster provided plenty to be excited about. In an attack that often lacked spark, he was the one that provided ahead of his more experienced colleagues.

Hence, Liverpool made sure they registered their interest in the playmaker after the departure of Gini Wijnaldum. However, it would seem Liverpool might not get their wish as the midfielder has spoken about his desire to remain at Hoffenheim.

‘My clear plan is to play for Hoffenheim next season. I definitely extended my contract in March with the intention to play here next season. I believe I have the biggest opportunity to develop further here. For me, that means playing consistently at a high level with more room for improvement.’

He did sign a new contract just in March, and it makes sense that he would honour that. However, the Reds could use a young attacking midfielder in the side like Baumgartner. We have often lacked goals and drive from the middle of the park. Baumgartner has shown that he can do both.
