According to the Daily Mirror (h/t Sky Sports), the agent of FC Porto star, Otavio, has given the ‘green light’ to the playmaker to join Liverpool in the summer transfer window.
The Reds are now one step closer in the pursuit of the highly versatile Brazilian midfielder. Last week, the Daily Star (as covered by TheKopTimes) linked Otavio to Liverpool and mentioned a £34m release clause that expired at the end of June.
There is no update regarding the status of the release clause as of now, considering we are into the 5th day of July already. However, he is one player that the Reds should be pursuing considering the spaces he can cover for them.
The 26-year-old can play centrally in midfield, on either flank, and even down the middle occasionally. This sort of versatility, much like Diogo Jota, can be beneficial to the Reds, especially this season.
With Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah off to AFCON in January 2022, Jurgen Klopp would need two solutions down the flank. One can be Jota, and Otavio can be the other – if the Reds actually do manage to get him.
Regardless of Mane and Salah’s absence, Otavio can be the number 10 Liverpool fans have waited for since another Brazilian playmaker, Coutinho, left Anfield for Barcelona.
With the agent now giving the move the go-ahead, Michael Edwards and co. should look to add Otavio to the list of midfielders – which is now one man short after Georginio Wijnaldum’s departure – at Anfield.
