According to transfer news from Mirror, Liverpool have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Kingsley Coman. Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn wants to keep the winger at the club and is confident about a contract extension.
Bayern are in a peculiar situation with Coman. They want to extend his deal despite two more years being left on his current deal. The problem for Bayern has been the fact that Coman wants a bigger pay packet and is willing to leave if those demands are not met.
Liverpool are hoping to capitalise on that as they look to refresh their attacking options for next season. Apart from Salah and Jota, most of the other forwards had tepid seasons in front of goal, meaning that the club are looking at a marquee signing like Coman.
However, their hopes could be dashed as new Bayern CEO and legendary goalkeeper Oliver Kahn is confident that Coman and Leon Goretzka will renew their deals.
“We’re in talks with Goretzka and Coman. Absolute top players want to be paid accordingly, we’re not naive about that. That’s perfectly fine. With us, there is a limit, which is very clearly defined. With [David] Alaba, you saw that at a certain point, we were no longer willing to go further.
We don’t push into salary regions that don’t suit FC Bayern. We are in very, very good talks with both players. I am optimistic. We have a great package to offer here. They always have the chance to win big titles with us and can help shape an era.”
It does come as a bit of a blow to Liverpool, who were hoping to go after the French winger. While Coman has not yet committed to a deal, chances are that he is likely to do so in the near future. That will mean Liverpool have to make other arrangements if they want a new attacker.
