Transfer News: Leeds United make £30m bid for Liverpool target Adama Traore

According to news from the Transfer Window Podcast (h/t Express), Leeds United have tabled an offer of £30m for Wolves winger and Liverpool target Adama Traore.

A product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia youth academy, Traore moved to England in 2015, signing for Aston Villa in search of regular first-team action. However, his time at Villa Park and subsequent club, Middlesbrough, were not entirely memorable.

But the transfer to Wolves in 2018 has helped Traore turn around his fortunes in a fine way. The 25-year-old enjoyed a particularly impressive season in 2019/20 and although his performance levels dropped last time out, he still did enough to earn himself a place in the Spain squad for the UEFA Euro 2020.

With his contract expiring in 2023, Wolves have now transfer-listed Traore, according to reputed journalist Duncan Castles. And, Leeds United seem to have now made their move to try the winger, amidst interest from Liverpool. (h/t Express)

“They [Leeds] were prepared to pay an initial £30m for Adama, who is a player that is well known to Leeds’ director of football Victor Orta. He’s under contract until 2023 and as we’ve been stating on the Transfer Window Podcast, he has effectively been placed on the market by Wolves.”

Castles, though, adds that Traore is fascinated by a move to Leeds and would rather play for a club with Champions League calibre, giving Liverpool a glimmer of hope.

“My guidance is that Adama is not interested in moving there and sees himself at, rather than making a sideways move in the Premier League, he wants to move up to a club with Champions League status.”

Liverpool could do with someone like Traore in the ranks to provide cover to the first-choice attacking trio of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah. Furthermore, with Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri likely
