Journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed the latest developments in Liverpool. As per the Italian transfer expert, Alisson Becker is in advanced talks with the club to extend his contract. The player wants to extend his stay at Liverpool.
The report comes with the news of Trent Alexander-Arnold extending his contract with the Merseyside club. The right-back has signed an extension till June 2025.
Alisson has established himself as the first choice ever since joining AS Roma in 2018. He came with heavy expectations. The club paid a then-record fee
for a goalkeeper to sign the Brazilian. However, he has taken the opportunity with both hands. The goalkeeper has been a commendable figure of Liverpool’s spine. Alisson along with the likes of Virgil Van Dijk, Joel Matip, and Joe Gomez formed one of the best defensive cores in the world.
The player showed some signs of a drop of last season. Factors like personal issues, injuries to first-team defenders and poor morale of the team could have affected that. Alisson himself was injured for a period of time last season.
However, with all those issues possibly behind him, we could expect to see Alisson Becker back to his old self.
A long-term contract for Alisson certainly makes sense. He is still 28 years old and could give at least another 5-6 years of top-level service for Liverpool. The club might not have to look for another goalkeeper for a long time.
The player can also help the development of other goalkeepers. The likes of Caoimhin Kelleher and Marcelo Pitaluga would cherish the opportunity to train with a top-level goalkeeper like Alisson.
