“Will have a scan”: Jurgen Klopp provides injury update on key defensive star

Jurgen Klopp provides worrying update on Andy Robertson injury

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson suffered an ankle injury during their latest pre-season friendly.

The club played out a 1-1 draw against Athletic Bilbao at Anfield. Diogo Jota opened the scoring, however, the Spanish side managed to clinch a draw through Alex Berenguer’s second-half strike.

During the game though, Liverpool suffered their first casualty of the season. Robertson was taken off just before halftime with an injury that he seemed to pick up while attempting to block a cross.

Jurgen Klopp has provided the latest on the injury. As per the boss, Robertson twisted his ankle. The extent of the injury is still unknown. While the pain has settled, he will still undergo a scan soon.

“We don’t know obviously at the moment how serious it is. It was pretty painful, that’s why Andy went off. He got the ball on the front of his foot then twisted his ankle.

“The pain settled already but we can’t say anything further without further assessment tomorrow. He will have a scan and then we will know more.”

How does this affect Liverpool?

The club had a barrage of injuries last season. The likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Jordan Henderson were out for a period of time. The situations forced them out of the title picture, potentially disrupting their ambitions.

Robertson’s injury could have a similar impact.

More Liverpool News:

Liverpool signed Kostas Tsimikas last summer to ease the load on Robertson. However, the player has not seen much action. Even if Klopp gives him the nod, one could assume that he would be a level below Robertson.

The manager will have another option in James Milner to fill the spot. The veteran, who is heavily involved in Liverpool’s pre-season, has played that position. Regardless, the Kop would be hoping for a speedy recovery for their Scottish left-back.
