Report: Liverpool braced for double-raid from PL rivals for this duo

Southampton interested in Liverpool duo Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Takumi Minamino

According to talkSPORT (h/t METRO), Southampton are interested in signing Liverpool duo Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Takumi Minamino.

The report adds that Liverpool are open to offloading the Oxlade-Chamberlain. However, the club would only agree on a loan deal. The plan is for the player to get more minutes after he appeared in just 13 league games last season.

Whether Liverpool are open to letting Minamino go is not mentioned. However, the Saints have him on their radar after he spent the last six months on loan at St. Mary’s.

On Oxlade-Chamberlain

Oxlade-Chamberlain is a product of Southampton’s academy. He had a seven-year spell at Arsenal between 2011-2017 before the Reds signed him.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has had his moments with the Reds even though his time has been disrupted by injuries. Ideally, Liverpool should be looking to keep him as he is someone who can scores goals from midfield.

However, as iterated earlier the player has struggled with injuries. He has failed to make it through a season without missing a chunk of games due to fitness issues.

This would explain Liverpool’s decision

to loan him. It looks like the club still has faith in him, but understand that he needs more game time.

On Takumi Minamino

Liverpool signed Minamino in 2019. The Guardian suggested that the club fought off interest from many others to land the player. However, the player has not settled in at Anfield. The Japanese international was sent on loan to Southampton in the winter transfer window earlier this year.
