According to transfer news from Liverpool Echo, Liverpool are prepared to let go of Nat Phillips if they receive an offer of £15million. Interest has been there from the likes of Burnley, West Ham, Newcastle and Southampton. However, Liverpool and Phillips are running out of time to secure a possible exit.
It was a defensive crisis of gargantuan proportions at the club last season. After the initial few games, Liverpool could not call upon their first choice back four throughout the campaign. However, the hardest hit came on the centre-backs with all three of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip being unavailable through injury.
A 24-year-old Nat Phillips stepped up amid the crisis and showed his mettle. His all-action and rugged displays endeared him to the fans as he kept performing right till the season ended. However, times are different now with all of the central defenders returning to action and the addition of Ibrahima Konate.
It seems as if both Phillips and Liverpool have accepted the fact that he will need to exit the club if he has to play regularly. Unsurprisingly, there is decent interest from Premier League sides such as Newcastle, West Ham, Burnley and Southampton. Liverpool are in no hurry to sell but will look to secure £15m for his services.
If Phillips wants to leave, it is understandable. After all, it was evident in the season opener when Van Dijk and Matip started the game. Phillips is still a relatively young player who will need a regular run of games if he is to continue his development. However, with the window set to close in 10 days, both are running out of time.
