According to The Mirror (h/t Express), Liverpool have hit a ‘snag’ in tying down Mohamed Salah to a new contract.
The Reds, who only signed one player in Ibrahima Konate this year, have tied down several players, including Virgil van Dijk, Jordan Henderson, and Alisson Becker to new contracts.
The next name on the list for the Anfield outfit is Mo Salah, who has been incredible for the club since he joined them in 2017. The Egyptian has managed
207 appearances for the club since his arrival, while he has scored 127 goals and provided 49 assists.Salah has also won the Premier League Golden Boot twice, while he was also an integral part of the UEFA Champions League triumph in 2019 and the Premier League victory in 2020, with the latter a first for the Reds in 30 years.
Thus, the 29-year-old has a lot of importance in the eyes of the Anfield outfit, who are keen on getting the winger to sign a new contract. Given that Salah’s contract ends in 2023 and he would enter the final year of his contract next year, the Reds are preparing an extension on his current deal, but the two parties seem far apart on the financial aspect of the deal.
The Egyptian is currently earning £200,000-per-week at the club but wants his wages to rise astronomically if he is to sign a new contract. The winger is said to be demanding half a million or £500,000-per-week to sign a contract extension at the Merseyside club, according to the Mirror (h/t Express).
While the 29-year-old is an integral part of Jurgen Klopp’s setup at Liverpool, it remains to be seen whether they will risk damaging their wage structure by agreeing to the star’s demands.
