According to Independent.ie, Caoimhin Kelleher is set to start for Liverpool against Leeds on Sunday as Brazil invoke FIFA ban on Alisson Becker.
Liverpool and other Premier League had unanimously decided to not allow their players to travel for international duties to South America due to Covid-19 norms. Liverpool, in doing so, kept hold of their Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson and didn’t allow him to travel for the suspended game between Brazil and Argentina.
In response to Liverpool’s decision, Brazil has hit back at the club. The Five-day rule will now be imposed by the Brazilian FA. Alongside Alisson, his international and club teammates Roberto Firmino & Fabinho are also set to miss out on the weekend clash due to the ban imposed by the Brazilian FA.
With Liverpool set to miss their first-choice keeper, Kelleher
is expected to start the game at Elland Road on Sunday. The 22-year old Irish international is yet to feature this season for the Reds but could be forced into action against Leeds United.Along with Liverpool, clubs like Manchester United and Chelsea will be missing the likes of Fred and Thiago Silva for this weekend fixtures in the Premier League and also the European fixtures on Tuesday night. The ban imposed on the players by FIFA will end next Tuesday.
This revelation is not particularly good news for the Premier League clubs. Liverpool players Alisson, Firmino & Fabinho are expected to be called up for international duty next month for Brazil in the World Cup Qualifiers.
Brazil are set to face Venezuela, Colombia & Uruguay in their next three qualifiers in October. However, it will be interesting to see if Liverpool keep hold of their players and do not allow them to travel to South America, or if the Brazilian FA have their way.
