According to team news and injury updates given by Jurgen Klopp while speaking to Liverpool FC, Virgil van Dijk is fully fit for the clash against Leeds United on Sunday. However, they could be without key players like Roberto Firmino, James Milner, Naby Keita and Takumi Minamino due to injury concerns.
The Liverpool boss confirmed that van Dijk is fully fit after returning from International duty. The Dutch defender was involved in a tackle late in the game against Turkey which raised concerns. A major injury last season saw the player miss out on a major part of the season and the UEFA Euros 2020 for the international team.
However, Klopp’s comments ahead of the game on Sunday assured fans that the Liverpool defender will be available for the game against Leeds. Meanwhile, Harvey Elliot was also announced fit for the game despite the player withdrawing himself from England’s U-21 squad.
Klopp also gave an update on key Liverpool players missing the action this weekend. Speaking to Liverpool FC, the manager said:
“With Virgil, that was obviously a scary moment, you can imagine. I sent him a message after the game, ‘Are you alright? ‘Yes. ‘100 per cent?’ ‘200 per cent.’ ‘Come on, send me a video of you without limping …’ ‘I’m only limping off.’
“So he called me from the bus and said, ‘Boss, I’m fine! I said, ‘Why are you limping then? He said, ‘My wife asked the same!'”
While Virgil van Dijk was confirmed
to be fit, the rest of the players that remained doubtful for the game this weekend could now be unavailable altogether. The good news, however, was Harvey Elliot will be available for the Leeds game and is can start in midfield for the Reds.“Bobby is not [fit], it happened in the game [against Chelsea] obviously. Harvey is fine again.
“Millie we have to see. Millie has to be the part of team training yet, he was not a part of team training so far, so we will see what he can do today. But he will get close definitely. Naby is fine”
Liverpool will return to Premier League action after the international break and would be expecting a tough challenge on road against Leeds United. The Reds are unbeaten in the league so far and would like to continue that run at Elland Road.
It will be interesting to see how the Liverpool boss sets his team up against Leeds keeping in mind they may be missing their key players due to injuries and suspension.
