According to ESPN Brasil (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool midfielder Fabinho Tavares opened up about the Brazil FA vs clubs dispute. Fabinho, along with his teammates Firmino & Alisson Becker, has been banned by FIFA from playing in this weekend’s Premier League fixture at Leeds United on Sunday.
Liverpool could potentially be without three of their key players after the Brazilian FA, backed by FIFA, has invoked a five-day ban on Brazilian players. The Premier League club refused to send the player on international call-ups citing the Covid-19 restriction imposed by the UK government. With no possible solution, the players will not be able to feature in the Leeds game this weekend.
The dispute has raised confusion and questions about whether Liverpool’s trio will be able to feature on Sunday’s fixture or not. Firmino, however, was injured before the international break in the game against Chelsea, so he may have been ruled out regardless.
Fabinho and Alisson are, however, key first-team players who could miss out on the game if no solution comes forth. The Liverpool midfielder has his opinion over this dispute and believes it’s the players who are stuck ‘in the middle of this row. The player said:
“It’s a difficult situation because we want to defend our country, we want to play for the Brazilian team. I believe that FIFA would not be able to change it either, neither Conmebol nor the CBF.
“We players are in the middle of this kind of dispute, right, without much to do. Because it was a Premier League decision not to release us.”
With this dispute, the Premier League club and the FA are in talks with the governing bodies to find a possible solution. This particular scenario does not help either of the parties as the national team would create friction with clubs and on the other side, clubs will be without their key players for important fixtures with Covid-19 regulations in place.
With a couple of days left until the Premier League resumes, the players, including 27-year-old Liverpool midfielder Fabinho, would be hoping for a solution to this dispute. Liverpool are on the road to face Leeds United next and continue on their title challenge regardless of the current situation.
