According to the club’s official site (h/t Liverpool Echo), promising young shot-stopper Oscar Kelly
has signed his first professional contract with Liverpool. The 18-year-old was a key player for Liverpool’s Under-18 and Under-23 sides. He also featured for the Under-19s in the UEFA Youth League in 2018/19.
Kelly appears to be a dependable asset to the club. If the club statement is anything to go by, there appears to be great faith placed in his shot-stopping abilities.
Reds’ boss Jurgen Klopp isn’t shy of handing his promising young players an opportunity or two to impress themselves. Trent Alexander-Arnold is today one of the best young players in the world and Harvey Elliott also appears to be on the same trajectory.
The owners FSG, have also made their intentions of grooming young talent very evident. Their investment of £50m in building a new state of the art training complex for the Merseyside team in Kirkby is clear evidence of that.
The Reds have made the pathway for the younger players much more easy as they look to get more players from the academy into the first-team setup. Whether Kelly will soon join the ranks of Liverpool’s first-team remains to be seen.
Liverpool currently have Alisson Becker, arguably one of the world’s best goalkeepers, in their midst. The chance to work under the Brazilian could be in the offing should the youngster continue his upward surge.
A scouser born and bred, he could add more youth flavour to a Reds side seeking to recapture their place at English football’s summit.
