Caiomhin Kelleher speaks out on starting vs Norwich City in the Carabao Cup

In an interview with Liverpool FC, young goalkeeper Caiomhin Kelleher expresses his thought about starting in goal for the Carabao Cup tie against Norwich.

Kelleher has played an important part for Liverpool in the Carabao Cup. He made his first-team debut for the Reds in a Carabao Cup match against MK Dons in 2019. He also heroically saved a penalty to ensure Liverpool’s progress to the next round in the fixture against Arsenal in the same season.

Pep Lijnders confirmed that the Kelleher would start in goal against Norwich. The young goalie expressed his thoughts on the same

“Really excited to hopefully make my first competitive start of the season obviously. I think we’re all looking forward to the game. It’ll be a good challenge and we’re just buzzing.”

The Carabao Cup and other such domestic competitions have been a good platform for the Liverpool youngsters to make a mark. In the past few months, the 22-year-old Kelleher has gone on to replace Adrian in goal as the second choice keeper behind Alisson Becker.

The goalkeeper reflected on his past experiences at Liverpool FC with the Carabao Cup. He went on to say

“Obviously, I played a few games two seasons ago, I think it was, and have some good memories of playing games. I made my debut for Liverpool in that competition as well. So, it’s been a tournament I really enjoy playing in and I’m looking forward to it again.” 

Kaide Gordon is another youngster who could feature against the Canaries, having impressed the management in training and pre-season. The domestic cups can prove to be a good stepping stone for the youngsters who are trying to make it into the team.
