Report: Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp on La Liga giants’ three-man managerial wishlist

Barcelona add Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to their three man wishlist

According to El Nacional (h/t Express), Barcelona have scouted current Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp as a potential replacement for Ronald Koeman.

The Catalans have endured a difficult start to their campaign. They experienced a humbling 3-0 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League before following it up with a disappointing draw against Granada.

Koeman is under immense pressure after the string of poor results and will need to turn his side’s fortunes around. According to the report, Klopp is Juan Laporta’s top choice ahead of the likes of Erik Ten Hag and Xavi.

Out of the three names on the list, Ten Hag and Xavi’s style of play suits the Barca philosophy with emphasis on short passes and a possession-based game. Klopp, on the other hand, subscribes to a high metal brand of football- one that has evolved into something more pragmatic in recent seasons.

The German has transformed Liverpool’s fortunes and is the ideal man to get the best out of limited resources. The German manager is under contract at Liverpool till 2024 and has shown little inclination to drop his project midway.

Ever since he came to Anfield, the Reds have witnessed a massive turnaround in their fortunes. He has led them to the UEFA Champions League, The UEFA Super Cup, Club World Cup, and the Premier League titles.

Klopp is also a deft hand at developing youth and getting the best out of his players. He helped transform Trent Alexander Arnold into a world-class talent and got the trio of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, and Roberto Firmino to exceed expectations.

Barcelona are currently in a financial mess and will need a manager who can help rebuild them from the bottom up with limited resources.

Klopp is clearly amongst the top managers in world football today, if not the best. He has a clear track record of improving teams he has managed and will suit what Barcelona are looking for in a manager.

A move to the Nou Camp would, however, be a step down for him at this moment in time. He is better off rebuilding Liverpool and leading them to further glory in the years to come.
