Transfer News: Liverpool keeping tabs on talented Porto midfielder Fabio Vieira

According to the Portuguese publication Record (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are keeping tabs on Porto’s 21-year-old midfielder Fabio Vieira.

The young midfielder has slowly yet steadily seen his star rise in recent times. He is cultivating quite the name for himself in Portugal, capturing the attention of the Merseysiders.

Vieira has the potential to be an excellent long term addition to Jurgen Klopp’s side. More so, with his contract expiring next summer

, the Reds could very well land the youngster for a cut-price deal or even for free.

It is imperative that Liverpool look to get a deal done for the player as soon as possible. Porto are keen to extend his stay at the club and could offer him fresh terms. A new deal could see his release clause rise from €30m (£25.8m) to approximately €50m (£43m). A far cry from the peanuts we may have to fork out for him in January.

Jurgen Klopp has built a fine Liverpool side that can compete against any team in world football. The quad is however ageing and needs an infusion of young blood.

Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara and James Milner are all in their thirties and will to be phased out sooner or later. Bringing in Vieira will give Klopp an option who could become a mainstay over the next decade.

The 21-year-old is coming on the back of a great Euro U-21 Championship in the summer where he was awarded the Player of the Tournament award. The youngster possesses untapped potential and Klopp has been known to get the best out of his players. It could prove to be a match made in heaven.

More so, the chance to educate him under Henderson, Thiago and Milner could prove to be invaluable for his development. There are none better than the skipper to educate the player on the Liverpool way of life.

Vieira still has some kinks he needs to iron out from his game. He has time on his side and will need to work on ironing out the weaknesses if he is keen to move to Liverpool.

Klopp’s sides accept no half measure and the youngster will need to be at his best if he is to succeed at Anfield.
