Former Liverpool player believes Curtis Jones should be given more game time after Champions League win vs Porto
In a conversation with BT Sport (h/t Daily Mail), former Liverpool player Michael Owen opined that Curtis Jones should be given more game time after a dazzling display against FC Porto in the UEFA Champions League.
The 20-year-old has impressed in recent weeks and started the last three games for Liverpool in all competitions. The young lad had notched up 2 assists against the Portuguese side for the Reds in their second UCL match of the season. He also scored 1 goal in 2 Premier League matches for the Merseyside team this season.
This Liverpool team have had to deal with a few injuries in the middle of the park at the start of the campaign. Naby Keita, who was temporarily available, has now returned to training whereas Thiago Alcantara and Harvey Elliott could be sidelined for a while.
This has left Jurgen Klopp with a headache to find the perfect balance in his squad and rotate his players. Curtis Jones has come into this first team and inspired this side to score some crucial goals, reducing the manager’s burden.
Owen spoke about the young midfielder’s impact on the game:
“But as Jordan Henderson mentioned he’s always been in and around played here and there. It’s about time for the sake of his career that he has a long run in the team. Maybe the unfortunate situation with a couple of injuries is going to help along that way and when you get that chance you’ve got to do exactly what he did tonight and had a hand in four of the five goals.”
The 20-year-old midfielder’s shot was deflected by Diogo Costa for Mohamed Salah to find an easy tap-in to open the scoring for Liverpool. The youngster also lobbed the ball ahead which saw Roberto Firmino open his account on the day, after another error by the Porto keeper.

Jurgen Klopp would be immensely happy with the youngster’s performance. The manager and club would love for the 20-year-old midfielder to continue his form on the pitch. The recent injury scare in the middle of the pitch would also mean that we could see more of Curtis Jones than expected this season.
