17-year-old Isaac Mabaya signed his first professional contract with Liverpool
According to the club’s official site, teenager Isaac Mabaya has signed his first professional contract with Liverpool.
Mabaya has been with the Liverpool academy since the age of 6. He debuted with the U-18’s as a wide midfielder when he was just 16 years old. The youngster was then used as a wing-back midseason and has been impressive in his new position as a right wing-back with the U-18s.
In the past few seasons, Liverpool have done a great job of promoting deserving youngsters to the first team. Jurgen Klopp has used the domestic competitions as a launching pad for giving deserving youngsters a chance in the senior squad.
Kaide Gordon, Tyler Morton, and Conor Bradley are great examples of this as the teenage trio recently made their senior squad debut in the Carabao Cup against Norwich. The match ended in a 3-0 victory for the Reds as fringe players Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi got their names on the scoresheet. Caoimhin Kelleher also had an impressive game as he saved a penalty for the Merseyside team against the Canaries.
The professional contract is a great way to promote younger talent from within the academy. It is a dream for every local youngster to play in front of the Kop as they chant his name. Trent Alexander-Arnold is the greatest example of a homegrown player achieving big things with Liverpool on the global stage.
The 22-year-old is currently considered as one of the best wing-backs in the world and Isaac Mabaya will be looking to follow in his footsteps. Steven Gerrard is another player who came through the ranks and won applauds for his performances throughout the globe.
