“Very painful”- Klopp provides an update on injured 26-year-old stretched off at Old Trafford

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp provides an injury update on Naby Keita

Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita had to be carried out on a stretcher following a horrible tackle by Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba in the clash at Old Trafford. Given the player’s injury record, it was an unwelcome sight.

According to the Mirror, in a post-match interview, Jurgen Klopp revealed that the severity and extent of the injury are being checked. We now have to wait for a few days to get the exact details.

The 26-year-old was a clear protagonist of the match and opened the scoring early on. The Guinean looked hungry on the night and caused United several problems.

Keita will hopefully not be out for long.

The Reds were in a mood to torture their opponents yesterday and secured their biggest win against Man United in 96 years. The scoreline could have been higher had they not taken the foot off the gas in the last half an hour.

Given the utter humiliation they were being subjected to, in front of their own fans nonetheless, United stars were understandably hopeless and frustrated.

The tension reached a boiling point at the hour mark and saw Pogba commit a horrible foul on Keita. The referee, at first glance, showed the Frenchman a Yellow card. However, following a VAR review, he changed it to a red card.

When asked about Keita’s injury, Klopp admitted that there is not much information available right now. A clearer picture will emerge next week following the scans.

“With Naby Keita, we have to see how serious it is. It’s very painful but we’ll see. We’ll only know tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.”

Keita has now scored in two straight games for Liverpool

Coming of age?

The 54-year-old went on to praise the player for his outstanding output on the pitch. Given that the performance has come after his Jekyll and Hyde night out at Atletico Madrid is all the more impressive.

“Naby is in a great moment. He’s an outstanding player.”

Keita has been a regular starter for Liverpool this season. Georginio Wijnaldum’s sale has opened up a void in midfield that the 26-year-old can fill.

More Liverpool News

The 26-years old has already scored two goals and provided one assist in six Premier League matches this season. His injury could not have come at a worse time.

His unavailability will be yet another source of frustration for Klopp. He is already juggling with injuries to Harvey Elliott, Thiago Alcantara, and Fabinho. To make things worse, James Milner also suffered a muscle injury and had to be substituted in the 27th minute at Old Trafford.
