Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool on the verge of making all-time club history vs West Ham

Liverpool will set an incredible new club record if they avoid defeat to West Ham United

According to The Independent, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side goes into tomorrow’s game against West Ham United knowing full well that a spot in the history books is on offer.

The Reds are currently on a 25 match unbeaten run in all competitions. This sees them level with the legendary Bob Paisley’s 1982 side who put up similar numbers.

Avoiding a defeat tomorrow will extend Klopp’s side’s run to 26 games, setting a new club record in the process. It would be a testament of just where this Reds side stands in regards to the legendary teams of old.

Despite the record on offer, Klopp isn’t too fussed. He admits that it is a pointless venture to compare the current Liverpool team with the legendary ones of old.

Different eras require different adjustments and the fact that we are able to do so across generations speaks highly of the club as an institution.

“Why should we compare that? We don’t see ourselves as in any kind of comparison with them. We try to do what is possible now – and I don’t know what is possible.”

A win is all that matters!

Both Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley built Liverpool into a bastion of invincibility. The fact that Klopp’s achievements are spoken of in a similar breath showcases the level of work he has managed to do at Anfield.

While securing records are all well and good it will matter for little if we do not secure three points on the field. Klopp is fully focused on the job at hand

and it would appear that any records broken are more of a happy byproduct.

“We are not really focused on records but if it happens then it is obviously a good sign because we are winning football games, and that is what we are interested in.”
