Liverpool keen on 24-year-old Swiss international impressing in the Bundesliga

Transfer News: Liverpool in contention to sign Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria

According to Italian news outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are interested in Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria amid heavy competition from Juventus.

The Reds’ midfield is facing a mini-crisis this season due to fitness issues among key players. While it isn’t as bad as last season’s injury concerns, but the recurring problem can give headaches to Jurgen Klopp in the long term.

Liverpool rejuvenates their interest in Denis Zakaria.

Having lost reliable central midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum to Paris Saint-German this summer, they were an option short at the beginning of the season. More so, injuries to Harvey Elliott, James Milner, Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Naby Keita at different points have all left Klopp shorthanded.

Denis Zakaria has become a serious target for the Reds because of his consistent performance in the Bundesliga for Borussia Monchengladbach. This season the German team only lost two games when the midfielder played the full 90 minutes.

It isn’t the first time that the Merseyside team have shown interest in the 24-year-old midfielder. It is believed that they have rejuvenated their interest and are ‘in contention’ to sign the Borussia Monchengladbach star. But they do face competition in their efforts.

It is believed that Italian giants Juventus are the frontrunners in the race, and is the ‘most likely destination’ for the Swiss international.

After showing some voids in the critical area, Jurgen Klopp’s team could use a helping hand in the midfield. In the last two games, the midfield showed vulnerability and also saw the club fall short of securing key points.

Whether Zakaria will become the latest addition to the Reds’ midfield remains to be seen.
