According to Liverpool Echo, Liverpool FC fans were enjoying drinks and food in pubs at a famous canal-side area in Milan when they were attacked with bottles and chairs by a group of unidentified people in black attire.
Liverpool are set to face AC Milan today in the final fixture of their Champions League group stage. Jurgen Klopp’s team beat Milan in the home clash and has won every group game in the so-called ‘group of death.’ The Reds are in a comfortable position with a guaranteed place in the last 16.
On the other hand, AC Milan have everything to play for in their first Champions League campaign in some time. A win for Stefano Pioli’s men combined with a favourable outcome between Porto and Atletico Madrid will see the Italians join Liverpool in the round of 16.
Many Liverpool fans have travelled to the Italian city to enjoy their team’s performance against Milan. However, the away fans have suffered casualties
after violent attacks from a group of offenders. What was meant to be a fun trip surely took a dark turn.It is believed that a group of Reds fans were enjoying food and drinks in a pub at the Ripa di Porta Ticinese which is a famous canal-side area known for bars and restaurants. However, their enjoyment was hampered by some goons.
It is believed that 20-30 men wearing all black outfits entered the pubs and started throwing bottles and chairs on the LFC fan groups. The offenders also started spitting at the fans.
However, some brave Reds supporter stood their ground afterwards and obliged the offenders to retreat from the area. Hopefully, nothing similar happens again.
The total number of casualties is still unknown; however, it is believed that some supporters needed extensive medical attention after suffering injuries. A spokesperson from the Merseyside police force said that one of their team has been deployed in Milan to help the local police.
