Transfer News: PL club puts £50m price tag on 25-year-old Liverpool target

Transfer News: Brighton set £50m price tag in January for Liverpool target Yves Bissouma

According to The Athletic (Subscription Required), Brighton & Hove Albion will demand around £50m for their midfielder Yves Bissouma, who is a target for Liverpool, to leave the club in January.

Although Brighton have no desire to sell their midfield powerhouse, they would be willing to let Bissouma leave the South Coast if the right price is tabled before the Seagulls.

The midfielder only has eighteen months left on his Brighton contract, and there is no indication at this stage that Bissouma will sign a new deal with the club.

The 25-year-old has been linked to a host of top clubs in the past, with Liverpool, Manchester United, and Arsenal interested in signing the defensive midfielder. Sky Sports

also claimed recently that Aston Villa are interested in Bissouma, following their capture of Philippe Coutinho on loan from Barcelona (h/t The Athletic

Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma could cost Liverpool upto £50m.

Bissouma has been a revelation for the Seagulls in midfield, shielding the defence and breaking up attacks, leading to Brighton having the joint fifth-best defensive record in the Premier League right now.

Bissouma to LFC?

The South Coast club only recently lost defender Ben White to Arsenal in the summer, and they would like to keep hold of Bissouma beyond his 18-month timeline so they don’t lose all their star performers in the space of one season. That only makes sense, but as Liverpool fans, it holds no real relevance for us.

With Jordan Henderson being erratic this season, and an ageing James Milner in the squad, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will be looking for players that can step up and take charge of the midfield in the near future. In Bissouma, he has a player that has proved his mettle in the Premier League and caught the attention of several other clubs in the top-flight.

Liverpool have been interested in signing Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma.

The Mali international is currently away at the Africa Cup of Nations, and Brighton are keen to not lose him in this transfer window. At £50m, he does not come cheap as well, but any club that is willing to fork out that much money would know the quality package they are getting in the former Lille man,

In a season racked with injury and Covid concerns, as well as players not fulfilling their potential, our midfield has arguably been a weak link. There are hardly any standout players in the middle of the park who have been consistent for us this season, and it could be a sign that we may need a reshuffle in our personnel if we have to compete for silverware in years to come.

Signing a talent like Bissouma may be one step closer to achieving that but it remains to be seen if FSG agrees to splash the cash for the midfielder midway through this season. It will be interesting to see what happens in the summer and whether Brighton change their stance on their star player.
