Loan Watch: Liverpool starlet continues to impress in the Championship

Liverpool loanee Neco Williams scores a brace for Fulham against Swansea City in the Championship

According to the club’s official website, Liverpool starlet Neco Williams who is out on loan at Fulham scored twice against Swansea City on Tuesday night, including a stunning volley from outside the penalty box.

The Welshman has been plying his trade for Fulham in the Championship since January. The Reds defender was loaned out in the winter to get him some much-needed game time and help him continue his development. The Welsh international has gone on to start eight games for the Cottagers providing two assists before scoring twice last night.

While his parent club were not having the greatest of times against Inter, Neco Williams was on fire for Marco Silva’s men. The 20-year-old right-back scored his first ever goal

in his senior club career last night, and then went on to double the tally with a sumptuous volley.
Neco Williams could develop into an excellent player

Neco’s brace helped the Cottagers beat Swansea 5-1 and continue their quest for automatic promotion this season. While the 20-year-old’s first goal was a well-timed striker from a Swansea clearance, his second goal was more impressive, controlling the ball with his chest and launching a sumptuous volley that found its way into the back of the net.

This brace from Neco comes on the back of his ridiculous long range attempt against Blackburn Rovers last Saturday which agonisingly hit the crossbar and stayed out. The Welshman’s performance clearly impressed boss Marco Silva and he had glowing words when asked about Neco after the game.

“Fantastic, but he deserved it”

“He almost had an amazing goal last Saturday”

What’s next for Neco?

Neco’s loan with the Cottagers expires at the end of the season and he will return to Anfield. The 20-year-old is very talented, as he has shown for both the Reds and now Fulham in his limited opportunities and could have a future at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp will have to decide what to do with the Welsh right-back next season. Neco will want to be playing regular football but he plays at a position where the Reds have one of the best players in the world in Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Staying at Anfield and not being able to play is not a wise decision for either party and it will only stall the defender’s development. The Reds may have to arrange another loan deal to one of the Premier League or Championship clubs next season so that Neco can get the game time he deserves and continue developing.

Liverpool may not want to cut ties with Neco on a permanent basis as he could be the future, but right now, he is not the present and may have to make peace with back to back loan moves away from Anfield.

The Welshman who has already won 17 caps for his nation will hope to continue putting in performances like the one against Swansea last night. Doing so will certainly aid his cause at both club and international levels.
