Liverpool to announce signing of talented Portuguese starlet in coming weeks

Liverpool could announce the signature of Fulham starlet Fabio Carvalho in the coming weeks

According to Football Insider (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool plan on announcing the signature of Fabio Carvalho within weeks. The 19-year-old won’t be able to join the Reds officially until 1st July 2022.

Fulham boss Marco Silva has admitted that Carvalho could leave the Cottagers despite having secured promotion to the Premier League. The teenage attacker played a crucial role for the London-based club this campaign, bagging 10 goals and seven assists in 36 matches across all competitions.

The Portuguese starlet has been majorly deployed as an attacking midfielder this season but has also played as a central midfielder as well as a left-winger. His versatility is a great gift and hopefully, the Merseysider will bear its fruit in the years to come.

Another starlet from Fulham

The last time the Reds went knocking at the door of Craven Cottage, we managed to lure upcoming star, Harvey Elliott. The English youngster has since gone on to make quite a good impression at Anfield, but a serious ankle injury against Leeds United early this season, slashed away all the momentum built by him.

The Reds have become very adept at bringing in youngsters with great potential in the last few years and moulding them to fit the culture and DNA of our club. The Merseysiders have also used the domestic competitions as launching pads for deserving youngsters to strut their stuff in the first-team setup.

Carvalho has been exceptional for Fulham this season.

This long-term vision is something that should be appreciated, and the purchase of Fabio Carvalho is another rough diamond in the pack. It remains to be seen whether the Portuguese teenager is sent out on loan or allowed to juggle between the development team and senior set-up to help him get a feel for the club.

It would be too much pressure to directly thrust him into the first team proceedings. Hence the purchase of a starlet is always a double-edged sword with their career having to be navigated very carefully.

Carvalho could benefit a lot from sharing a dressing room with such experienced players and we hope that he becomes the torchbearer of our future senior squad one day. Considering the kind of roles that someone like Elliott and Curtis Jones have played in the last couple of seasons, there is no reason why this cannot become a reality.
