Ex-Evertonian James Rodriguez wants Liverpool to win UCL final because of one reason

James Rodriguez reveals he wants Liverpool to beat Real Madrid in the UCL final because of Luis Diaz

James Rodriguez is a former Everton and Real Madrid player, which is why him wanting Liverpool to win the UEFA Champions League final would come as a shock to many.

The Colombian superstar made a name for himself in the 2014 FIFA World Cup, which earned him a move to Santiago Bernabeu. Things only went downhill for him since then and he now finds himself at Al-Rayyan SC in Qatar at the age of 30.

And when asked who he would want to win in the UCL final later this month, Rodriguez’s answer was clear. He said, as quoted by The Express

“I want Liverpool to be champion. I have many friends in Real Madrid and it is a difficult team for this type of match, but I want Lucho (Diaz) to win.”

Rodriguez himself won the UCL final with Los Blancos in 2016 and 2017 and now wants his international teammate, Luis Diaz, to get his hands on ol’ Big Ears. It is claimed that the 30-year-old playmaker and Radamel Falcao played a part in Diaz choosing Liverpool this January.

J-Rod wants Diaz to win UCL

If that is the case, then it would certainly not please Everton fans. He departed the Toffees after just one year at the club, following in the footsteps of Carlo Ancelotti, who himself saw greener pastures in Madrid.

Diaz has been a revelation at Liverpool ever since his move from FC Porto in January and can very well replicate James’ international stardom if he continues at this pace. Rodriguez, who has played for clubs like Bayern Munich and AS Monaco earlier in his career, could not quite live up to the hype he created after the World Cup in Brazil.

With the form that Diaz finds himself in, he could start the final against Los Galacticos in Paris on 28th May. Liverpool’s 10th final could see them win their 7th European Cup/UEFA Champions League title, which would still fall six short of Madrid’s impressive tally of 13.

And Diaz has the chance to create history. Only two Colombians have lifted the UCL trophy- Ivan Cordoba with Inter Milan, and James Rodriguez with Madrid- but neither started in the final and weren’t even subbed on.

Diaz could start again down the left-hand side for us granted he stays fit until then and the way he changed the game for us in the semi-final against Villarreal gives him every right to.
