According to transfer news on Sky Sports, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Divock Origi are set to leave Liverpool this summer.
This would come as no surprise to our fans, given how less the duo has been used this season. The Belgian striker has been the club’s saviour from the bench a number of times and is a cult icon at Anfield.
But he just can’t find regular minutes. In all honesty, he has never once looked like he can be our main man up front ever since his move to Merseyside all those years back.
He has had to settle for being our gamechanger from the bench. At 27, perhaps he is no longer in a position to waste his talent on the bench and he can build a career for himself outside LFC.
The situation is even worse for the Ox. When he was signed from Arsenal, there was a real feeling that we could witness a quality winger transforming himself into a midfielder.
And to be fair to him, he was pretty good for us in the beginning. But things have gone awry for him in recent seasons, with the Englishman not being used at all by Jurgen Klopp ever since our win against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup.
That was all the way back in March. Given how less we use the 28-year-old Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, perhaps we won’t miss him if and when he leaves Anfield. Nevertheless, that would mean one less pair of legs in midfield.
But seeing Origi go would undoubtedly be a huge blow. He has been a real weapon off the bench for the German manager and the Reds can struggle to replace him with a striker that can make the same impact- if they want to, to begin with.
