“I’m a supporter”- National team boss urges his wantaway striker to join Liverpool

Transfer News: Poland manager Czeslaw Michniewicz urges Robert Lewandowski to make a move to Liverpool

Speaking in an interview (h/t The Express for quotes), Poland national team manager Czeslaw Michniewicz admitted that he would like to see Robert Lewandowski at Liverpool because he is a fan of the club.

The Polish international striker has announced his decision to leave the German giants after a long and successful career at the Allianz Arena. At 33, Lewandowski is perhaps in the latter stages of his prime years.

Barcelona have been linked with the ex-Borussia Dortmund striker. However, their financial situation may not allow them to splash the cash in order to sign Lewa.

The striker, of course, made his name under Jurgen Klopp at the Signal Iduna Park before he was snapped up by Bayern. And now, Lewandowski’s national team coach Czeslaw Michniewicz has urged him to reunite with Klopp as he himself supports LFC.

“I’d like to see Lewandowski in Liverpool since I’m a supporter of the club.”

What should LFC do?

One may ask if signing Lewandowski is wise for the Reds and if he can fit in their system. But it would be hard to find a manager who cannot accommodate a lethal forward with 50 goals across all competitions this season.

Liverpool can really use a traditional, out-and-out centre-forward. Roberto Firmino often plays as a false nine while Sadio Mane, who has recently played in that position after Luis Diaz’s arrival, largely plays as a winger.

Divock Origi is set to leave Anfield while Mane himself has been heavily linked with a move to Bayern. Perhaps the Reds can ask Bayern for a favour with regards to signing Lewa if they ever intend to sign him and end up losing Mane to the German giants.

However, it remains to be seen if the Merseysiders will show any interest in the striker who is well into his 30s. He will, of course, be a short-term solution in attack given his age but he can really be the difference between the Reds winning trophies and finishing runners-up next season.
