Di Marzio gives verdict on Real Madrid pursuing Liverpool megastar

Gianluca di Marzio claims Real Madrid will not pursue Liverpool winger and Bayern Munich target Sadio Mane

Speaking to wettfreunde (h/t Liverpool Echo), acclaimed transfer expert Gianluca di Marzio opined that Real Madrid will not pursue a deal for Liverpool star Sadio Mane.

The Senegal international is yet to renew his contract at LFC and has been linked with a switch to Bayern Munich recently. Madrid, meanwhile, missed out on a transfer for Kylian Mbappe this summer.

The PSG superstar is set to stay at Parc des Princes after renewing his deal in Paris. But di Marzio claims that the Frenchman was something ‘special’ and Los Blancos

would not pursue Mane despite missing out on the former AS Monaco superstar.

“I don’t think Real Madrid will go for another attacking winger, because Mbappe was something apart, something unique. Real Madrid will not sign another player like Mbappe. They have Vinicius, they have Rodrygo and they will sign only Tchouameni.”

If you can’t beat them, then join them. Hopefully, that isn’t the motto that drives Mane, with the 30-year-old having a nightmare record against Los Galacticos as a Liverpool player- much like most of his current teammates.

Mane set for Bayern move?

He was on the losing side against Madrid in two UEFA Champions League finals- 2018 and 2022- and was knocked out in the quarter-final stages of the 2020/21 UCL season.

It seems that di Marzio is convinced that the presence of Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo will prevent Real Madrid from chasing the former Southampton ace. Regardless, it seems that the Reds could very well lose the 30-year-old winger this summer.

There isn’t any news of him putting pen to paper on a deal with the Reds and with the player having won a number of major trophies under Jurgen Klopp, it makes sense why a challenge elsewhere could seem enticing.

Losing Mane to Madrid would have been salt in our wounds. Not a lot of Liverpool fans carry fond memories of our team facing the La Liga giants in recent years and snapping up our star winger in the summer after they beat us in the UCL final would have been doubling down on our misery.
