According to transfer news on Spanish publication SPORT (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool could have to shell out £34million in transfer fees if they want to sign Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich.
It is further claimed that the valuation could have been higher if not for Bayern fearing legal action from the Poland international. The German giants believe he could take legal recourse to leave the Allianz Arena with just one year left on his current contract.
That would come as music to the ears of LFC fans. There is no doubt about Lewandowski’s pedigree. His goal-scoring record says everything there is to say.
The 33-year-old hitman ended the current season with 50 goals in 46 games across all competitions for Bayern. Those are numbers that put him right up there with the most potent attackers of our generation.
Lewa, who has 75 goals in 130 caps for his national team, still has a few years of football left in him. Those who watched him this season in a Bayern or a Poland shirt would have noticed his fitness and how important he remains to his team’s system.
Roberto Firmino hasn’t been an out-and-out number nine during his time at Anfield and Sadio Mane was used as a makeshift forward in his absence towards the end of the current campaign. Perhaps it is time for the Reds to go out and get a proven goal-getter.
Klopp hasn’t really made a lot of signings at Liverpool that involve players around the age of 33. The German boss has largely brought in talented players and then made them world-class individuals at Liverpool.
But Lewa, who has been in the conversation about winning the Ballon d’Or for the past couple of years, is a player we would be wise to make an exception for- especially considering the fee being quoted for him.
