Liverpool ace transfer-listed after forgettable Anfield spell

Transfer News: Ben Davies put up for sale by Liverpool after nightmare Anfield spell

According to LancsLive, Liverpool have put defender Ben Davies up for sale in the summer transfer window after a shocking spell at Anfield.

The Reds were going through a tragic defensive crisis when they shrugged off competition from Celtic and spent £1.6million in the winter of 2021 to sign Davies from Preston North End. Along with Ozan Kabak, the Englishman was expected to add defensive depth to our squad.

But despite the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, and Joe Gomez being injured for an extended time during that campaign, Davies never took the field for us. Instead, Jurgen Klopp favoured Nat Phillips and Rhy Williams in defence.

Ben Davies had a loan spell at Sheffield United.

That was truly an odd sight given Liverpool paid a seven-figure sum to sign a player who was effectively an icon at PNE. Davies is yet to play in a competitive game for us and was loaned out to Sheffield United for the 2021/22 campaign.

LFC making the right call?

And it seems like his nightmare spell at Anfield is coming to an end. It is one of the rare cases of Klopp getting a transfer completely wrong.

While the Reds were not forced to Kabak beyond that summer- given he was signed on a loan deal from Schalke- Davies had to stick around. However, he can now find himself looking for a new club this summer.

Liverpool trumped Celtic to sign Ben Davies.

Davies has played for teams such as York City, Merseyside-based Tranmere Rovers and Fleetwood Town, apart from amassing a wealth of experience at the Deepdale Stadium. It remains to be seen where he ends up this summer.

He clearly has no future with the Reds. Klopp has rarely ever had such talent in his defensive department and he is already struggling to hand regular playing time to talented players such as Joe Gomez.

Amidst this, Davies is better off finding a new team to play for. At 26, he still has a lot of footballing years ahead of him.
