Darwin Nunez tells what message he will send Luis Suarez after completing Liverpool transfer

Yesterday would have been a hectic day for Darwin Nunez, with all the media duty and formalities to be completed to officially seal his Liverpool transfer worth €100million including add-ons.

But he is now a Red and gave his first interview to Liverpoolfc.com (h/t Liverpool Echo), where he spoke about Luis Suarez, and if he has contacted the Liverpool icon about his move. The former SL Benfica striker said that he hasn’t yet, but will do so in the future.

“No, not yet, I’ve not had a chance to be in touch with him just yet. But I’m sure when everything comes out on social media, I’ll give him a call or I’ll send him a photo that I’ve taken where he’s there in the background in a picture.”

Suarez is an icon at Liverpool. He may not won the Premier League or the UEFA Champions League with us here, but those that saw him play in our famous Red shirt can only imagine the amount of silverware he could have won had he been a part of Jurgen Klopp’s team.

That is, of course, a hypothetical situation. Suarez left Liverpool for Barcelona after the 2013/14 season following that summer’s FIFA World Cup, having scored 82 goals in 133 games for us.

“I’ll send that to him and we’ll have a bit of a chat and I’ll ask him lots of questions so he can offer his support and help because he’s a real reference to me because he’s a Uruguayan footballer who made history at Liverpool.”

Fun fact, Suarez and Nunez aren’t the only two players from Uruguay to play for the Reds. Sebastian Coates left Nacional for LFC in 2011. While he did not have a successful time on Merseyside or at Sunderland, he has won 47 caps for his country so far.

Nunez would hope that he goes on to become the most prolific South American forward that has ever played for Liverpool. That should be his first goal- and at 22, he has all the time in the world to achieve that.

Signing him so early on also gives us the advantage of having him for the full pre-season. There would be nothing better than seeing him start from day one, when we officially begin the new campaign.
