Transfer News: Liverpool have no intention of selling Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been linked with a move away from Liverpool, but as per the Liverpool Echo, the Reds have no intentions of selling him this summer.

Oxlade- Chamberlain has played the role of a substitute more often than not last season and is far from a first XI star at Anfield. Despite this rotational role, the England international remains a part of Jurgen Klopp’s plans.

Should Liverpool sell the Ox?

Oxlade-Chamberlain has been a bit-part for the Reds and with Liverpool challenging for all four titles till the very end, Klopp opted to play with a set side. This made it all the more difficult for the 28-year-old to break into the playing XI.

The 28-year-old started just 17 games for the Reds as they won the Carabao Cup and FA Cup titles and barely missed out on a quadruple. Every player wants to play as many minutes as possible, and the lack of game time can be disappointing for most.

The Ox needs to battle it out with Thiago Alcantara, Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita all fighting for a place in the middle. Others such as James Milner, Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones will also be looking to challenge for playing time.

With this in mind, it seems unlikely that things will change next season for the England international at Anfield unless there are major injuries in the team.

The ex-Arsenal player was supposedly on his way out of the club as Liverpool had opened the door for a possible exit. But it seems the Reds have had a change of heart after they missed out on signing Aurelien Tchouameni from Monaco.

It would be prudent to have a versatile player like Oxlade-Chamberlain in the squad who can fit in the middle of the park and can also play wide. With the Merseyside club again looking to challenge for all four titles next season, it’s imperative that we have a deep squad.

By the end of last season, fans were able to notice the intensity dying down a bit as the Reds ended up playing 63 games in all competitions.

The Ox may not be the first choice for Klopp, but keeping him around for another season will ensure that Liverpool have enough depth to call on players when needed. With only a year left on his contract though, will the Reds decide to cash in? Only time will tell.
