Nike proposing PSG kit change that could impact Liverpool

Liverpool kits could remain the same for two seasons as Nike considers PSG jersey change

Liverpool kit supplier Nike is considering keeping club kits the same for two seasons. The team kit could remain the same for two seasons as opposed to a new one being released every year.

This, according to La Source Parisienne via footpack (h/t football.london), is a change Nike is considering offering PSG. The clubs that agree to it will wear the same kit for a two-season cycle, which was normal up until the late 2000s.

The idea behind this is to lessen the environmental impact of the textile industry. Reducing the financial burden on the fans could also be a consideration.

What changes will it bring?

Being conscious of the environment is important in this day and age. With rising global temperatures and the increasing intensity of other natural disasters due to climate change, big brands like Nike need to be more responsible.

The current issue of global warming is an anthropogenic one and big industries and companies need to come to the fore as it’s their responsibility. Though it remains to be seen whether the two-year kit cycle will have any significant impact on pollution.

The other aspect is a financial one. Covid-19 has impacted everyone financially to a varying extent. With increasing expenses day by day, it’s imperative that clubs look after their fans as they are the lifeblood of the sports.

With kits remaining the same, it’s one less thing for fans to worry about. But it’ll be interesting to see whether there’s a change in pricing with this.

Since shirts and other accessories are a source of revenue for clubs, the change might make brands and clubs reconsider prices for kits. It will be interesting to see what happens next as clubs rebrand themselves to be more involved in the community.

More Liverpool News:

The suggested changes will certainly help with what Nike envisions, but it seems too little in the grand scheme of things.
