Liverpool told what to expect from €100m birthday boy by retired Uruguayan legend

Diego Forlan tells Liverpool fans what to expect from Darwin Nunez

Diego Forlan has told 90min ES (h/t Liverpool Echo) that while Darwin Nunez still has time to hone his skills, there is one thing he will bring to Liverpool, and that is goals.

Luis Suarez has spoken about Darwin’s move to Merseyside and backed him to ‘write his own story‘ at the club. And it seems like Nunez has blessings from another legend of Uruguayan football.

The 23-year-old Nunez, who celebrates his birthday today, saw LFC agree on a fee that could rise to €100million with add-ons. And according to Forlan, they are guaranteeing themselves goals with this signing

.

“What can Darwin Nunez bring to Liverpool? Obviously, he’s still a young player, he’s still growing. He has a great set of skills, he scored a lot of goals at Benfica.”

Nunez is touted as the man to replace the outgoing Sadio Mane. While many would believe the Senegalese is still one of the best wingers in the world, his transition as a centre-forward was seen in the closing stages of the latest season.

“I believe that one of the things he can bring is, without a doubt, goals. Then, as time goes on, he’ll keep growing on the technical aspect. He will get to know his abilities better and he will develop them more and more too, while also gaining experience.”

An exciting signing for LFC

Forlan, who is now 43 and retired as a player close to three years back in 2019, played 96 games for Manchester United from 2002 to 2004. With 112 senior caps and having represented his nation in multiple FIFA World Cups, he is one of the most renowned footballers to come out of South America.

And for him to speak about Nunez in such a way shows the kind of backing he has from some of football’s greatest strikers. He would be itching to get his first LFC goal as soon as possible and build from there.

Nunez is already an important player for Diego Alonso’s side and would consider himself one of the favourites to be picked for his country’s journey to Qatar later this year.

After Suarez and Sebastian Coates, Nunez is the third Uruguay international to represent LFC. Hopefully, he makes himself the best one we’ve had to date.
