Transfer News: Liverpool will have to break transfer record again to land midfield target

Transfer News: Liverpool will have to break transfer record to sign Borussia Dortmund target Jude Bellingham

According to the Daily Star, Liverpool have been told that Jude Bellingham has a £103million price tag on his head. The Reds are planning on making a move for the former Birmingham City star next summer.

After all, that means that they would have to break their current club transfer record if they want to sign the 19-year-old. The kind of financial strain such a deal can cost is obvious.

Moreover, the pressure such a tag can carry on a player and club’s head is also something to consider. Not every player can meet such an expectation as Virgil van Dijk has.

The Dutch superstar is our record signing currently, with the Reds paying £75million to Southampton for his services. But Darwin Nunez could easily break that record if all add-ons are met.

The deal for the 23-year-old Uruguayan international could rise to £85million. But if Bellingham’s valuation is fulfilled, it would shatter this potential record by a long margin, and it remains to be seen if a deal for the England international materialises on these terms.

LFC must sign Bellingham

But fans would now hope that the club can make such a signing. They have had massive success over the past several years, a healthy wage structure in place, and have also recouped some of the money they’ve spent on Nunez.

Take for example Sadio Mane and Takumi Minamino’s exits. The Reds are set to pocket £35.1million

and £15.5million respectively if the add-ons are met for their transfers.

Neco Williams and Nat Phillips are also linked with moves away from Anfield while the Reds no longer have Divock Origi on their wage books. Of course, there could be room for negotiation when it comes to terms regarding Bellingham’s move.

But with teams such as Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester United also interested in a player whose contract only ends in the summer of 2025, the Reds would know that Bellingham will not come for cheap- no chance.

Nevertheless, such signings can decide the course of the club for the upcoming years and beyond. It was only after we spent cash on Alisson Becker and van Dijk that the team really started to compete for the biggest trophies under Jurgen Klopp.
