It’s always exciting for the fans to see a new player being unveiled, but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has explained how it impacts the players already at the club.

The English midfielder hasn’t been an important part of Jurgen Klopp’s team over the past few months, but he was once brought to Anfield to be the next big thing in our midfield. Things have changed.

The Reds have moved on since then, bringing in the likes of Naby Keita, Thaigo Alcantara, and Fabinho Tavares to shore up their midfield. Signings are important and time has come for LFC to bring in another midfielder once again.

They’ve attempted to add fresh legs with Fabio Carvalho amongst other players and the Ox, speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, admitted that additions such as this keeps everyone in the team on their toes.

“Fab, he’s obviously a young player, very technically gifted. I saw a few little bits from him at Fulham last year and from guys I know there, they all speak very highly of him. So I’m sure we’re going to see him learn from a lot of the boys around here as well and settle in.”

Even the strongest teams in the history of the sport brought in players during the summers or the winter in order to increase the competition and keep things fresh. Oxlade-Chamberlain has made the same point.

“Just any new faces like that, it breeds the competition for places and a bit of excitement, something new and fresh, and that makes everyone stick it into the next gear to sort of impress and make sure the standards stay high. So it’s a good thing, always.”

Just because Liverpool came close to winning the quadruple last season, it doesn’t mean they can rest easy. Teams around them would strengthen and LFC need to be ready to upgrade or reinforce in places as well.

Liverpool can get near the finish line but it takes a lot of effort to get across it. We’ve already lost the league title by the finest of margins under Jurgen Klopp twice.

Manchester City’s goal-scoring midfielders in the form of Phil Foden, Kevin de Bruyne, and Bernardo Silva have helped them in tight games. If the Reds can think along those lines and get in someone, it would be really advantageous.
