Former Liverpool attacker Stewart Downing compares new singing Darwin Nunez to Luis Suarez

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, former England international Stewart Downing made his thoughts known about Darwin Nunez and likened him to former Liverpool forward Luis Suarez. The 27-year-old believes our new signing plays with a South American style.

“I think watching him, the fans will love him. He has that South America style about him.”

“He’s a bit like a Suarez type of player and with the crosses coming in from both sides he is going to thrive on that and the service he is going to get.”

Downing thinks Nunez is a good fit for the Reds and believes the 23-year-old will turn out to be a great signing for Jurgen Klopp. The Uruguayan was bought from Benfica as Sadio Mane

“I just see him fitting in really well and Jurge Klopp very rarely buys players that don’t fit into the way he wants to play. I just think he will be a great signing and he is a lot different to Mane. But you need different ways of playing and different dimensions.”

The 37-year-old is confident that the fans will embrace Nunez and love his style of play. Downing hopes the Uruguayan gets off to a good start, especially at Anfield, to get the crowd on his side.

Following a big-money move from the Portuguese league after scoring 34 goals in 41 appearances for the Eagles, fans will be looking forward to watching Nunez ply his trade in English football.
