Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan explained the importance of the kind of reception the team got in Thailand on the pre-season tour.
The Reds were greeted by a number of die-hard Liverpool fans outside the airport which was akin to a raucous bus welcoming you’d expect outside Anfield ahead of a big game. And that would have given our new signings an idea about what the club is about.
They are yet to kick the ball for us in a competitive game but could do so when we take on Manchester United in Thailand on 12th July in a pre-season friendly.
Darwin Nunez, Calvin Ramsay, and Fabio Carvalho have all joined us this summer, with Takumi Minamino, Divock Origi, and Sadio Mane just some of the names that were shown the exit door.
“The reception that we had at the airport, the reception that we got here at the hotel, I think it’s one of those things where until you experience it in person, it’s hard to sort of describe it to people.”
“As I say, it’s like travelling with The Beatles! You show up and there’s just thousands of people everywhere. So, I do think that gives people, particularly the new signings, a sense for how the club is on a global basis.”
The atmosphere could be electric at the Rajamangala Stadium on 12th July when Manchester United take on the Reds in a pre-season friendly. The Reds fans in Thailand could well be the first ones to see some of our new signings in action for the first time.
Our club’s global reach is something to be proud of. It is the reason why we could climb out of the pit we found ourselves in during the Roy Hodgson era.
It took time but the club’s culture, history, and culture ensured that the club was still in a position to sign players like Luis Suarez and a manager such as Jurgen Klopp.
Now, we are in a good place but our fans know what it took for us to get there. Those that stay in the bad times, cherish the good times even more.
