Transfer News: Aston Villa place £20m price tag on Liverpool and Barcelona target Carney Chukwuemeka
According to Fabrizio Romano (h/t Liverpool Echo), Aston Villa are open to selling Carney Chukwuemeka amidst rumoured interest from Liverpool.
The 18-year-old midfielder has garnered a lot of interest in recent months. With his contract running out in the summer of 2023, perhaps the West Midlands recognise the possibility of losing the talented starlet for nothing.
According to Romano, Barcelona are among a number of elite clubs interested in him. Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain are two other names linked with a move.
Born in Eisenstadt, Austria, Chukwuemeka has already had several caps for the U19 England team. He seems destined to become one of the finest midfielders in English football and could have big ambitions.
What next for Carney?
Villa, considering where they are now, aren’t really shooting for the stars. Meanwhile, clubs like PSG, Liverpool, and Barcelona are constantly competing for trophies.
However, it’s one thing to join a big club but becoming a regular first-team player is no easy task. Dortmund and Liverpool, in that regard, have one common link here.
Jude Bellingham has been linked with a move to Liverpool next year. If this move happens, there would be a place opening up in Dortmund – what better way to replace a talented English midfielder with another one?
If Bellingham stays, the Reds would be wise to look at other young targets. They hardly get any younger than Chukwuemeka, who has shown immense potential at Villa Park.

Only time will tell what happens in this sage. Things could get particularly interesting if Chukwuemeka runs down his deal and becomes a free agent, but with the PL club now willing to sell him, perhaps they can hope to gain a neat little sum for him.
