West Ham United make a tentative enquiry about signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Liverpool

According to the Liverpool Echo, West Ham United have approached Liverpool and made a tentative enquiry about the possible signing of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer.

The 28-year-old is in the final year of his contract and will become a free agent at the end of the 2022/23 season if he doesn’t sign a renewal. The Reds are looking for around £10 million to part with the Englishman.

West Ham are looking at Ox as a possible plan B if they are unable to sign Jesse Lingard this summer. The former Manchester United star is a free agent and enjoyed a successful loan

Oxlade-Chamberlain’s career with Liverpool has been marred by injuries. The 28-year-old has shown glimpses of his talent but has never been able to consistently showcase his qualities, spending most of his time on the sidelines.

Since signing for the Merseysiders in 2017 from Arsenal, the Englishman has missed 74 games due to injury for Liverpool. It’s been a disappointing move for both the club and the player.

Liverpool have also added quality in the midfield over the years, which has made getting a place in the XI more and more challenging. Ox’s career with the Reds has been akin to taking one step forward and two steps backwards. Whenever it appears like he’s getting back to his best, an injury stops the 28-year-old’s run.

So, Jurgen Klopp has had to rely on other players when it comes to replacing players who’ve carved their place in the starting lineup. Naby Keita has been inconsistent during his time in Merseyside, but last season he started to make strides in the first team as a regular.

Curtis Jones is another player who gets plenty of chances when the squad is hit by injuries or fatigue. The young Scouser has shown the potential to become a future star at the club. Harvey Elliott will also be looking to come back from his injury woes next season.
