Vincent Kompany’s team join the race for in-demand Liverpool defender

Vincent Kompany’s Burnley join race to sign Liverpool starlet Sepp van den Berg

According to journalist Alan Nixon (h/t LiverpoolWorld), Burnley can now compete with Bournemouth and FC Basel in the race to sign Liverpool starlet Sepp van den Berg.

The Dutch center-back spent the final six months of the previous campaign on loan at Preston North End, and Liverpool could be open for another loan move.

Jurgen Klopp may want the 20-year-old to play regular football next season to help with his development despite the fact that he has played for the Reds only four times.

Van den Berg is sought after by Bournemouth and Basel and now Burnly have entered the race for him. Former Anderlecht manager, Vincent Kompany could sign the defender on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

What next for the young Dutchman?

However, Basel can give the Dutchman a taste of European football, while Bournemouth could be ready to give him the chance to play regularly in the Premier League.

The 20-year-old would now have to make a decision on which team he would prefer to join as every club will have a different project to offer. With four elite central defenders at his disposal, Jurgen Klopp would have more reasons to bench Sepp van den Berg and Nat Phillips.

So it does make sense for the Dutch star to hunt for a move away from Anfield in order to gain some vital game time. The Clarets have already lost James Tarkowski to Everton and now they would need to find an ideal replacement at the heart of the defense.

Burnley were relegated to the Championship last season and this could be a platform for our Dutch defender to build his career upon. Learning under a coach as good as Kompany, he could also strengthen different facets of his game before returning to Anfield.

The Dutch defender would be able to add depth to Vincent Kompany’s squad and in return, he would have a new environment to develop further.
